Questions to Ask a Wedding Venue in Mathura or Vrindavan Image

A venue can look perfect on a site visit and still cause trouble on the day. This checklist covers the questions we ask every venue in Mathura and Vrindavan before a family pays an advance, so you can compare options on facts rather than photographs.

Take it with you on visits, or send it to the venue manager on WhatsApp and ask for written answers.

Capacity and layout

Ask for the real seated and standing numbers for each space, not one figure for the whole property. A lawn that holds a large crowd for the varmala may hold far fewer once you add a stage, buffet counters and a mandap.

  • How many guests can sit for dinner at once, and how many can the space hold for the pheras?
  • Is there a covered or indoor fallback if it rains, or if a December night turns very cold?
  • Where will the mandap, stage, buffet and DJ go, and do they fit together?
  • Are other events booked at the property on the same date?

Rooms for family and guests

Most Braj weddings bring in relatives from Delhi, Rajasthan and further away, often for two or three nights. Rooms decide how comfortable those days feel.

  • How many rooms are on the property, and how many will be blocked for you?
  • What are check-in and check-out times, and can early arrivals off morning trains get a room?
  • Are there ground-floor rooms or a lift for elderly guests?
  • If you need more rooms, which hotels nearby does the venue suggest, and how far are they?

Food and alcohol rules

This matters more here than in most wedding towns. The sale of meat and liquor is banned in the main pilgrimage area of Mathura-Vrindavan, and many venues serve only vegetarian food with no alcohol. Rules differ by location, so never assume.

  • Is the menu vegetarian only? Can the kitchen prepare sattvik food without onion and garlic for some guests?
  • Is alcohol permitted on the property in any form?
  • Can you bring an outside caterer or halwai, or must you use the in-house kitchen?
  • Is there a per-plate minimum, and how is the final count charged?

Music and timings

Loudspeakers and DJs in open spaces generally have to stop by 10 pm unless local authorities allow otherwise. Plan the sangeet and baraat around that, and ask the venue what it actually enforces.

  • What time must outdoor music end? Is an indoor hall available after that?
  • Does the venue have its own sound system, or will your DJ bring one?
  • Is a dhol and band baraat allowed to enter through the main gate?
  • Are fireworks or cold pyros allowed?

Parking, access and power

  • How many cars can park inside, and is there valet or a guard on duty?
  • Can a bus or tempo traveller reach the gate? Some lanes near the temples are narrow and crowded.
  • Is there a generator, what does it cover, and is diesel included in the rent?
  • Are there enough washrooms for the guest count, including near the lawn?

Outside vendors

Some venues tie you to their own decorator, caterer or DJ. Others charge a fee for outside teams. Find out before you hire anyone.

  • Can you bring your own decorator, photographer and DJ? Is there an entry or “royalty” fee?
  • When can the decor team start setting up, and when must they clear out?
  • Are open flames, havan kunds and hanging installations allowed?

Payment and cancellation terms

  • How much advance is needed to hold the date, and when are the remaining payments due?
  • What is refundable if you cancel or move the date?
  • Which taxes and charges (electricity, generator, cleaning, security) are extra?
  • Is the quote written, with the date, spaces, rooms and menu listed clearly?

Get every answer in writing. A verbal “haan, ho jayega” is not much help at 9 pm on the wedding night.

Dates to watch

Nov-Feb is the main wedding season, so good venues fill early. Holi week and Janmashtami bring very large crowds to both towns, which affects traffic, hotel availability and access. Many families also avoid Chaturmas and Kharmas, so check with your pandit before you fix a date. Our season-by-season guide goes into this in detail.

Frequently asked questions

Can we serve alcohol at a wedding venue in Vrindavan?

Often not. The sale of liquor is banned in the main pilgrimage area of Mathura-Vrindavan, and many venues do not allow alcohol at all. Confirm the rule with each venue in writing before you book.

How early should we book a wedding venue in Mathura?

For dates in the Nov-Feb season, start looking several months ahead, because popular dates go first. Off-season dates usually give you more choice and more room to negotiate.

Do Mathura venues allow DJs after 10 pm?

Loudspeakers and DJs in open spaces generally must stop by 10 pm unless local authorities allow otherwise. Ask the venue whether an indoor hall is available if you want the party to go on.

Can we use our own decorator at a Vrindavan venue?

Many venues allow it, but some charge an outside-vendor fee or insist on their own team. Ask this before you sign, and get the set-up and clearing times in writing.
