If your family lives in Chandigarh or the Tricity and you have set your heart on a wedding in Vrindavan or Mathura, this guide is for you. Below we look at how Punjabi families usually celebrate, how to get a large party down via Delhi, and how a two-night plan keeps the long trip comfortable.

Sangeet, dhol and a big guest list

Chandigarh weddings tend to be full of people and full of music. The sangeet is often the night everyone remembers, with dancing that runs late. In Braj that needs a little planning. Loudspeakers and DJs in open spaces generally must stop by 10 pm, so we start the sangeet early in the evening, or move the late part indoors where the venue permits.

Food is the other point to settle early. The sale of meat and liquor is banned in the main pilgrimage area of Mathura-Vrindavan, and many venues serve vegetarian food only, without alcohol. Confirm with your venue what is allowed. A rich Punjabi vegetarian menu, with live counters and plenty of paneer, keeps most guests very happy. Our entertainment team can line up dhol players, singers and a DJ within these limits.

Moving a Chandigarh party to Vrindavan

The road distance is about 400-430 km and the drive runs via Delhi, taking roughly 6.5-7.5 hours. Many families break the journey: a tea and lunch halt along the way, or even a night with relatives in Delhi before the last stretch south. Coaches leaving Chandigarh early in the morning reach Vrindavan by late afternoon in normal conditions.

By train, guests usually travel to Delhi and take an onward train to Mathura Junction, or use a direct train where one is available. Relatives flying in from abroad or other cities land at Delhi’s IGI airport, about 3.5-4 hours by road from Vrindavan. We arrange pick-ups at IGI and at Mathura Junction.

In late December and January, dense fog on the Delhi stretch can slow cars and delay trains. If your date falls then, plan to arrive a day early and keep the first evening light.

Two nights in Vrindavan: a sample outline

Arrival day. Guests check in through the afternoon. Mehendi for the ladies, followed by the sangeet in the early evening and dinner.

Wedding day. Haldi or chooda in the morning, a visit to ISKCON Vrindavan or Prem Mandir for anyone who wishes, and the baraat, pheras and reception later in the day.

Departure. A late breakfast, vidaai and coaches back north. Families with a few spare hours sometimes walk down to Keshi Ghat on the Yamuna before leaving.

Your list and our list

Things to bring from Chandigarh: outfits and phulkari dupattas, the chooda and kaleere, family jewellery, shagun envelopes and gifts, and any items your pandit or granthi asks for. Warm clothing matters too, since winter nights in Braj are cold.

What we organise locally: flowers and garlands, mandap and stage decor, lighting, Mathura peda and other mithai for the boxes, seating, and a welcome desk for guests. Our destination wedding planners look after the whole event, while the hospitality and management team allots rooms, schedules transfers and keeps a list of every guest’s arrival.

On dates, Nov-Feb is the main season. Many families avoid Kharmas, from mid-December to mid-January, so check with your pandit before you fix a date.

How we work with families from Chandigarh

  1. We start with a video call to hear about your family, the size of the guest list and the functions you want.
  2. We suggest venues sized for a big sangeet and check their rules on music, food and timings.
  3. We plan travel: coaches from Chandigarh, halts on the way, and pick-ups from IGI or Mathura Junction.
  4. Our team is on the ground for both days, running decor, entertainment and the guest desk.

Send us your preferred dates and a rough guest count through the enquiry form, or reach us on the contact page. We will reply with a draft plan built around your Chandigarh family.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the drive from Chandigarh to Vrindavan?

The distance is about 400-430 km via Delhi, and the drive takes roughly 6.5-7.5 hours. Fog in winter or heavy Delhi traffic can add time, so we plan generous halts.

Can we hold a late-night sangeet in Vrindavan?

Open-air music generally has to end by 10 pm. We schedule the sangeet early, and where the venue permits, continue indoors at a lower volume.

Is there a direct train from Chandigarh to Mathura?

Direct trains run on some days, and otherwise guests change at Delhi for Mathura Junction. Check current schedules before booking; we meet every arrival at the station.

Should Chandigarh guests fly instead?

Flying only helps relatives coming from farther away, who land at IGI and drive about 3.5-4 hours. For most Tricity guests, road or rail is simpler.
